Now more than ever, being visible is critical to your long-term success in your fast-moving, ever-changing organization. When you think about being visible, consider that there are three levels of visibility: low, medium, and high. The two levels that typically impact your visibility are your personal visibility and the visibility of the work that you do.

  • Low Visibility – You are unseen, and the work that you do is unknown to colleagues outside of your functional area and organizational leaders who can positively influence your career.
  • Medium Visibility – You are seen, and the work that you do is known to your boss, colleagues in your functional area, and some colleagues outside of your functional area.
  • High Visibility – You are seen, and the work that you do is known to your boss, colleagues in your functional area, colleagues outside of your functional area, and organizational leaders who can positively influence your career.

In order to raise your visibility in your organization and industry, begin focusing on two fundamental areas – increasing activities and behaviors that build your presence and reputation.
