Raise Your Visibility & Value: Steps to Take Before the Value Conversation with Your Boss

1. Identify the business performance drivers that are important to your organization. Brainstorm with a colleague, speak with a senior leader, or talk with  someone in finance, sales, business development, or operations.

2. Complete the value identification exercise. Identify value that you currently create or could create. You can also work with a colleague or friend to help you think through the exercise and challenge your thinking.

3. Schedule a time with your boss in advance. Make it clear in your invitation that you are requesting the meeting to be solely focused on discussing business value. (Use some of the talking points we’ll provide in a following post in order to be clear with your boss on the focus of the meeting.)

4. If appropriate, consider sending your value identification exercise in advance for your boss to preview.
